Campaign To Change Direction

The goal of the Campaign to Change Direction is to change the culture of mental health so that all of those in need receive the care and support they deserve. The Campaign encourages everyone to pay attention to their emotional well-being – and it reminds us that our emotional well-being is just as important as our physical well-being.Ā  We provide a tool, theĀ Five Signs of Emotional SufferingĀ and theĀ Healthy Habits of Emotional Well-being, so that we all have a common language to identify when someone is suffering and how we can stay emotionally healthy.

Grandfamily Support Group

Caregiving for grandchildren is a unique experience that can put a strain on family dynamics in many different ways. Child & Family, in collaboration with the Newport County Prevention Coalition, offers a support group for grandparents who are the primary caregivers for their grandchildren by providing an opportunity to come together and provide mutual support to each other. Meetings scheduled based on availability of interested participants.

Faith Initiative

The Faith Initiative was developed to assist local faith communities understand substance misuse and offer trainings, resources, and information on how to offer help. As we continue to expand our network of diverse faith communities, we hope to also broaden our resources so that all citizens can receive the care they need.

No Wrong Door System of Care

No Wrong Door System of Care was established in 2019 by the Newport County Prevention Coalition and our behavioral healthcare community partners.Ā Considering the direĀ behavioral healthĀ statistics in Newport County, NCPC recognizedĀ the need for collaborative strategies among many and diverse partnerships– the very essence of coalition work. One in five residents of Newport County are thought to suffer from mental health and substance use disorders that often go untreated; Suicide is the 2ndĀ leading cause of death in adolescents and young adults; Opiate overdoses have reached epidemic proportions. These factors drive our focus on collaboration to close the gaps between services. A team approach is required to successfully address these issues.

Partnership for Success: Underage Drinking

The Partnership for Success initiative was started in Newport County to address the issue of underage drinking within our community. By offering information regarding the consequences of underage drinking and educating our community on the real costs of Rhode Island’s “Social Host Law”, the Partnership for Success hopes to encourage families to make healthy decisions.Ā

Medication Safety

It is too easy for your child or teen to access drugs left on kitchen or bathroom counters and medicine cabinets. Securely store ALL painkillers and other common drugs. TheĀ Rhode Island Regional Coalitions offer free medication lock bags via mail for anyone is interested.
